Today is the day that you have finally moved into the new house your parents have bought. You are choosing your room and decide that the attic is the place you want your bedroom. While you are in the attic, you find tons of antiques and in the corner of the attic is a huge chest. It catches your eyes and the desire to open the chest is overwhelming. When you open the chest you are blown away that there are Civil War items in it. You notice a Union soldiers clothing, a couple of pictures, and some books. You begin to go through the chest starting with the pictures.
Eventually you begin to look at the books and are astonished that these are from the 1850's. Most of the books were old and ruined, but there was one that caught your eye. It was a small black book that looked like it had been burnt. You realize that this book is not like the other books. It is a diary and you begin to investigate what it contains. You notice that there is a picture of a man with a name on it... Rudy Griffin. Through his diary, you notice that he was at the Battle of Gettysburg, Antietam, and Bull Run. Unfortunately, you get to the end and his last diary entry is missing.
Although you do not know a lot about the Civil War, you are interested in learning more about it while you travel the same path that Rudy Griffin did. You take the diary to your parents and show them what you have found in the attic. Your father sits down with you and asks you what you think about the diary. While you are talking with him, you ask him about the Civil War and about Rudy Griffin. He tells you that he does not know anything about it, but ends the discussion on telling you to create an adventure to answer the questions you have by going through Rudy's experiences and learning about what really happened to him.
